Why Art Therapy Is Effective

By Ruth Reed

There are amazing psychotherapists and counsellors who help their patients go from strength to strength. Of course, you have to find the most suitable person to work with. There are many different programs that you can look into and this will determine the results. A lot of folk who have been through trauma, for example find that art therapy can be very good for them.

It means that they feel more confident expressing themselves in this non-verbal way. It is not always easy to approach a stranger and confide in them when you have been through something tough in your life. People with trauma have trust issues most of the time. They often don't know where to start. This type of therapy helps the individual to let go of a lot of these emotions.

Children and teenagers are also less expressive and not always willing to talk about how they are feeling. It can be a problem when parents send a child to talk therapy because it can be difficult to trust someone that they have never met before. They may be going through a crisis, and it is important to build up a relationship first.

Usually people will engage in talk therapy. The verbal process is definitely helpful. It helps you to get something off your chest that you have possibly been storing inside. This is obviously not helpful. Some people need to know how they can control the way in which they interact which can cause problems in their relationships.

This therapy is particularly good for kids and teens. Youngsters are often reserved when they enter psychotherapy. Sometimes, they refuse to talk about their home life. They may be embarrassed about something. They may worry that they are going to be in trouble. They sometimes don't like talking behind the backs of the rest of the family. Fortunately, there are other methods to help with this.

Kids are more honest when they are engaged in this type of creative approach. They may draw their home or their family members unconsciously, unlike adults. If asked to draw their home or family, this may be displayed in a traumatic way or they will use dark colors. The therapist will then get a better idea of something that is happening in their life.

In a case like this, a creative therapist or an art therapist can do a lot of good for the person who is struggling. There are different activities that the individual will take part in. It can depend on what the problem is or their age and their situation. Sometimes they can use their imagination and draw something that comes to mind.

A child that has been through a tough time will need someone to trust. It is important that they are confident talking to someone like. They need to be sure that they are in a safe space. Sometimes, kids will take part in group activities or they will work in pairs. This can be helpful for children with learning problems or behavioural issues. Many kids with ADHD and autism as well as other learning disorders begin to progress when they are involved in this type of therapy. They also enjoy it at the same time, so it is something for parents to think about.
