Selecting The Most Popular From The Wholesale Christmas Trees Virginia Farmers Grow

By Dennis Anderson

If you are planning to make some extra money this year opening a holiday tree lot, you have to start making decisions early. You will need to contract with a farmer and have your tree order in no later than October 1. Which plants to buy should reflect what customers are looking for. You want to choose the best and most popular varieties from the wholesale Christmas trees Virginia farmers have to offer.

You certainly need plenty of Fraser Firs on your lot. This is usually the most sought after tree, and with good reason. The greenish-blue coloring is striking. The needles are soft, and the shape reminds everyone of a classic Christmas tree. There is plenty of space between the branches to hang ornaments, and the soft needles make it comfortable for the smallest fingers to attach ornaments to the tree.

The Noble Fir is another great tree that most people like. It is deep green with graceful, artistically shaped branches. Decorating a Noble is easy because, like the Fraser, the branches are spaced well enough apart to make hanging ornaments easy for even a novice decorator. They can accommodate heavy ornaments handily.

Customers who have homes with wide open interior spaces may be looking for big, tall plants. The Grand Fir fits the bill for them. It is dark green in color and has soft, short needles like the Fraser and Noble. Unlike those trees however, the Noble fir branches aren't suited for really heavy ornaments. If your customer wants to make a dramatic statement, the Noble Fir could be a good choice.

Balsam Firs are favorites with families that love to fill their homes with the smell of a living tree. Balsam Firs are very aromatic with nice form and pretty dark green needles. They will not hold heavy ornaments however. The branches are too light and delicate for that.

The White Pine is the only pine tree that makes the top ten favorites list in any given year. Customers recognize this tree by its long soft needles that make the branches look like great big feathers. They are favorites of those like to make wreaths and garlands. Because this is such a lush tree, decorating it can be challenging, and heavy ornaments won't work.

The Douglas Fir is a perennial favorite with many families. It has shiny green needles and can grow as large as the Grand Fir. It is not a good tree for holding heavy ornaments though, and it can be difficult to decorate because the branches can get too dense to hang dangling type decorations.

You will have a busy and successful holiday season, if you offer the public a good selection of popular trees. Arranging them skillfully is important, and the more types you have on the lot, the more sales you will make. If you have the right product, your customers will remember and come back next year and the year after that.
