The Current Good And Bad Cambodian News

By Zelma Hurley

News and current affairs are a way of keeping people informed of the current status of their country economically, politically, socially, and in terms of health. The information they get can be used in schools or simply as an addition to knowledge stored. In short, information can make the lives of the citizens better somehow.

Cambodia is one of the developing countries in Southeast Asia. It is known for its rich culture and environment. Because of this, they have advanced in the tourism industry which have improved their economic condition. Cambodian news has all these developments and then some bad news that people hear daily.

They are able to attract a great number of tourists every year to visit the place. Siem Reap, its capital city, is also rich in commercial and business. The people there get to have their businesses like boutiques where their unique styles of fabrics are sold. Also, they have great food. Their hospitality is also one of the most attracting factors that kept their tourist industry alive.

In the headlines of most of their newspapers and news networks is the coming of the first lady of America. Reportedly, Michelle Obama will visit Japan and Cambodia in hopes of sending a message to the people about the importance of education especially for girls. The number of uneducated and illiterate girls has become very alarming.

On the other hand, there is a bad update regarding the health of some Cambodians. It was on the headlines that there are more than two hundred people who got diagnosed with HIV in a district there. Some of them are still children and others are elderly. An unlicensed medical practitioner gave them the disease by using a contaminated syringe and needle.

Still in one of the health reports, it was said that Cambodia is one of the countries that have high cases of malaria. However, researchers have found that the artemisinin, which is a drug that treats the deadly disease, has lost its effect to several patients. They have become immune to the drug. Other countries that have grown immunity to the medicine are Myanmar and India.

It is no doubt that the country is making a lot of economic progress these days. But the presence of social problems like poverty and unemployment still threaten the advancement of Cambodia into the world market. These issues, including illiteracy need to be solved with utmost focus by government and non government associations.

Underdeveloped and developing countries have to face these problems. But the most important thing is the resiliency of people despite the many problems that come along the way. Cambodians are incredibly resilient and very resourceful.

The news contains all that is happening in the day to day lives of the people. It is the only way these people become aware of how they can contribute to changes and what actions they need to take as individual citizens. It is a good thing powerful countries like the United States are making efforts to help countries like Cambodia.
